Answering my own questions here.
So vehicle GVW plus trailer MAM must be less than 3500kg for B-Licence
So this is therefore wrong?
Quote (ROG)
GVW 2600 allows for a trailer plated at 900 for B licencing and to keep out of tacho regs
GVW 2800 allows for a trailer plated at 750 for B licencing but 700 to keep out of tacho regs. (Should be 700kg??)
So basically a b-licence holder can tow a trailer upto 750 kg unless you have a decent transit :-/
I'm getting it!!

Tacho 50km exemption will depend on exactly what you are doing
If you had stuff in the trailer which you took to a job and used on that job with most of the time spent on that job and not driving then it would be exempt if you never go over 50 km from base at any time
A B licence driver with a vehicle plated at 3500 can tow a trailer plated at 750 kg
It is when the trailer goes over 750 kg plated weight that the 3500 total MAM rule cuts in

It's all stupid really.
So you can tow a 750 kg trailer fully loaded behind a fully loaded 3500kg van with a train weight of 4250kg and that's fine and legal.
If your trailer weighs 756kg then you're illegal and the van can't have a MAM of anymore than 2749kg
Bonkers... Who decided that.

Is the trailer MAM
more than the unladen
weight of the vehicle?
That bit was revoked on 19/01/2013

The law had to be set somewhere
How would you have done the B licence towing law?

Well for starters I'd make sure that the Tax Payer funded government advice website was actually clear and accurate and NOT open to misunderstanding!
Next I'd bring licensing, Tachographs and O-licences under the same roof to ensure conformity.
Next I'd make sure that EVERY vehicle (particularly small commercials) sold was sent out with information attached to convey the various requirements to the users. Perhaps a flow chart laminated to the inside of every glovebox..!?
Every trailer sold should have this information as well!
I'm a law abiding citizen who runs a business and WANTS to make sure I'm operating legally and correctly and it's a bloody nightmare when it comes to transport with Towing regs/insurance/waste handling certificates/Tachograph rules/operating licences/and the rest of the bollocks.
It could be better.

Forgive ne for throwing a spanner into the works. - but where does in say it's been revoked ??
This give a good indication that it's still inforced.....
Applied to all standard B licence issued from 1997 onwards..

Paul, I explained before many times that DVLA leave old rules on the internet and that is what you have found and posted

B LICENCE TOWING LAW 001.jpg
See for yourself here https://www.gov.uk/towing-rules - last updated 23 October 2014 according to page
What I previously posted is not old, it appears it's still currently being applied... although it does say "(this only applies to licences issued before 19 January 2013)"
Obviously it's been amended (re-worded), but appears it doesn't apply to licences issued from Jan 2013... One rule for one, and one rule for another??
As confirmed in your letter it's been amended. although there's a discrepancy on who it applies to between that letter & that DVLA page..
The mind boggles... :)

The page might keep being updated but they are still including laws which have been revoked - that is 100% fact
If for whatever reason you choose not to believe me then please contact a legal expert who can explain to you the current laws
Just because its on a GOV website does not make it law
There are no different driving laws for any driver unless a specific exemption is made for those with acquired/grandfather rights such as the soon to be new law where current LGV C drivers can drive an empty coach/bus with no passengers but new LGV C drivers cannot
The RTA Road Traffic Act is the place to find all the current laws but it has been amended so many times that it takes a legal expert to read what the current laws are and to determine what has been revoked
