Unfortunately after a month+ the symptoms have not gone away. I successfully had my tooth removed and I am almost 90% recovered. The cavity where I had my tooth taken is almost completely healed. My dentist and I thought that the symptoms of what seems to be a 'Post-Nasal Drip' were caused by my infected wisdom tooth. It seems like this was not the case.

I'm going to make another thread and seek more medical advice on the subject. I won't rest until I have gotten a proper diagnosis for this. I am honestly sick and tired of all of the coughing, spitting and choking that I am constantly forced to do because of this condition...

Hi...I am happy for u to finally have this taken care of, but sorry for the way it was done...ouch!

I also wanted to mention, that u may have been given antibiotics to avoid infection after an ordeal like that, and if so....it is possible to have reflux symptoms from that....so, be adviced...and know u can ask ur Dr about takingprobiotics to help re-balance ur system.

Hi,

I just had the problem tooth removed an hour ago. It took a very long time to get the appointment. Initial x-rays didn't go well enough and the x-ray wasn't large enough. So I went and had a second full mouth x-ray about 4 weeks later. Another 4 weeks after that I finally got the tooth pulled (today).

The dentist had to saw my tooth into 7 portions to be able to remove it. She also used quite a lot of force. I thought she was going to break my jaw at one point. The numbing agent is starting to wear off now the pain is slowly coming in. I was given 600mg of ibuprofen to help with the pain. My dentist said she also gave me a very large shot of numbing agent and that there was some damage to the exterior of the extraction point which is normal.

I have been 'spitting' quite often for the past 45 minutes until I read from a dentist online that you should try and not spit at all for the first few hours because that removes the clotted blood and the clot has to start all over again. He stated that if the bleeding slow down to a tiny bit after about 6-12 hours that there is a severe problem and that one should go straight back to the dentist.

The rate at which I am bleeding is amazing, it's like a waterfall that comes straight out of my mouth.

Unfortunately my dentist couldn't give me much information as I don't speak the native language here in Finland (Finnish) as I am from Australia. I could understand lots of what she was saying but not everything and I am sure she let off on a few things because I wouldn't have been able to understand them. Unfortunately my wife was at Uni so she couldn't accompany me and translate.

I'm now left with a gigantic hole on the bottom right of my jaw where my bottom right wisdom tooth used to be. It looks absolutely horrible and even though I'm not a dentist I can say that she left quite a bit of mangled tissue around the area of extraction. It's still connected to my gums however.

The operation took about 38 minutes. Most of which was spent with my dentist trying unsuccessfully to pull the tooth out in which she had to then go back to sawing at it to remove portions at a time.

Now I am sitting here with my mouth full of blood and god-knows what else. Sorry for my choice of adjectives but when I came to this forum I wanted as much detail as possible to see if I could find others with the same problem as me. I am sure that others would want the same.

In the end it wasn't GERD. Which I am very happy about, but I still had to get this tooth pulled which was a huge shame. I would have liked to have been able to keep it.

I will keep this thread updated. Hopefully I will not develop dry-socket or any sort of infection. I have mouthwash and salt lying around and an unlimited supply of warm water. I plan to be very thorougher with my cleaning, at least when the extraction site stops bleeding. I really don't want to have to go back again (and pay more) to have someone clean my tooth and dote about me more. I'd just like to be done with this problem. I've had issues with coughing up mucus all the time, so much that it has really affected my life.. I want to be rid of this issue as soon as possible. Though it seems that I could be waiting a time of 6 more months until I can go back to eating 'normally' without worry apparently.

I can only hope that now that my pericoronitis is gone that after my wisdom tooth swelling is gone and everything is healed that my tonsils will shrink back down to their normal size and I won't be choking on every second breath again.

Thank u for the update and the info and I am sure many would never have considered this...I would like to add, the drainage and the antibiotics can still give u GERD symptoms, so do take some meds or watch ur diet until all has calmed down.

I forgot to mention that the dentist did an x-ray and told me that I had a small 'paradental cyst' under my wisdom tooth which is what was filling with the disgusting liquid.

It really is a serious condition, see a dentist immediately. I cant wait to get this tooth pulled. Pain is not an issue for me, almost choking to death is.

This morning I could barely breathe because my throat was so full of discharge.

Ok so I diagnosed myself with 'Pericoronitis'.

The dentist told me I was exactly correct and she scheduled me to get the wisdom tooth pulled as soon as possible.

I have an appointment in 1 week to get it pulled out. I was also perscribedsome seriously strong painkillers. Ibumax 600mg.

As well as VPen Mega. Phenoxymethylpenicillin. 660mg.

Taking the Penicillin hasn't made a change at all to the infection in my tooth. I still get tons of pus'y discharge and the smell is horrible.

The dentist said that the condition would always come back until I got the tooth pulled and that it would be a serious problem if the infection got into one of my arteries and worked it's way up to my brain or down to my heart or both.

The tooth hasn't been pulled yet but when it does it removed I will post another update.

While I'm glad I don't have GERD, it is a shame that I do have Pericoronitis...

If anyone else suffers from the same symptoms as me they really need to see a doctor. One of the major main side-effects of Pericoronitis is digusting breath, a rotting/pus'y discharge around your wisdom tooth as well as swolen lymph nodes and a constant choking on phlegm.

Hi...it sounds like u need to be seen by a GI dr or even a ENT...u could have post nasal drip causing the issue....and until u get to the Dr u may want to try to elevate the head of ur bed to help this at night so u sleep better.

I strongly suggest u see the dr
