Looking for malware scan tool for downloaded *.apk files

  • Quote

Postby Dan-cer »

Since I am the happy owner of a smartphone with GrapheneOS rom, I would like to download Android apps from likely unsafe sites to my PC first and then scan them. Is there a suitable tool for scanning single files, at least *.apk files

Update:
I found (with bing search AI) Linux Malware Detect (LMD) that is a CLI tool and is working fine.
Any comments?

Chances are that any tool you use won't pick up on a lot of these new fangled spyware/malware.

Try F-Droid - nice and easy and relatively safe.

F-droid android app.
Do not trust any AV, it won't pick up the malware code that can be changed every day/hour/minute by the bad guys.

I think you're right with your opinion. I'll rely on F-droid.
What about Aurora? Less save?

Better not install any AV. Use virustotal instead:

Nobody can beat its 30+ simultaneous AV engines. Looking for malware scan tool for downloaded *.apk files (13)

Thank you Pjotr!
A powerful tool indeed.
In Telegram.apk this was found:
Gridinsoft: Malware.U.Gen.tr (detected)
Probably I have to ask in any Android forum how to deal with, right?

In GrapheneOS forum I got the info that it is false positive from Gridinsoft.
Also I got a suggestion to use Hypatia app on the phone.

Yes, that too.

Of course VirusTotal is only as capable as the AV engines it applies, but it looks like it's using almost every important engine in existence. I'm grateful towards Google for making this fine service freely available (it's Google-owned).
