Summary

  • Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is expanding to PC with improved graphics, controls, and cross-platform progression.
  • The popular mobile game features iconic Star Wars characters and has a dedicated community.
  • Players can seamlessly switch between PC and mobile versions without losing progress.

One of the most popular and ever-lasting Star Wars games is finally making the jump to PC and it's bringing with it plenty of improvements to its presentation. While it may not have the iconic reputation of Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic or the cinematic flair of Respawn's Jedi: Survivor, that doesn't mean the mobile game Galaxy of Heroes isn't worth a look. The enduringly successful mobile game, which has been running for close to a decade at this point, has managed to foster a dedicated community of its own and it's about to grow even bigger.

Per an announcement on Galaxy of Heroes' blog, the turn-based strategy RPG starring Star Wars' roster of iconic characters is coming to PC in the near future and it'll boast some major improvements. Developer EA Capital Games has confirmed that the PC port will run at 60fps, double that of the mobile version. Additionally, the team has developed mouse and keyboard controls to ensure that game is just as easy to play without some kind of touch screen. Veterans can also link their accounts to ensure they can seamlessly play on PC or mobile without losing any progress.

The move to bring the game to PC makes sense given that the platform is constantly expanding its user base and keeping Galaxy of Heroes free to play will ensure that even more players give the game a try especially since it can be quite demanding on mobile devices. EA has confirmed that intends to update both versions of the game in lockstep so all patches will be deployed at the same time to ensure neither platform is unfairly prioritized. Dedicated Galaxy of Heroes fans eager to see the suped-up version of the game can now register to test out the beta build.

Releasing in 2015, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes was launched to tie into the hype surrounding The Force Awakens, the first major film entry in the franchise in over a decade. Despite some teething problems with its free-to-play model that allows players to purchase powerful characters with real money, the RPG has managed to smooth out the experience. The game is now widely regarded as one of the most friendly free-to-play mobile experiences available on iOS and Android.

At the time of writing, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes includes a staggering 247 playable characters.

Galaxy of Heroes is also regarded as one of, if not the, most complete Star Wars video game given how all-encompassing it is when it comes to including characters and worlds. Players are able to earn and unlock a variety of heroes and villains pulled from every era of the saga; From A New Hope all the way through to the most recent season of The Bad Batch. As the game nears its tenth anniversary, EA Capital likely plans on celebrating its longevity with a special as-yet-unannounced in-game event.
